Maintaining "Blonde" Hair on a College Budget
For most of my life my naturally brunette hair has been dyed blonde. In the 6th grade I took a box of bleach to my head and turned my hair platinum blonde. This sky rocketed me into the world of sitting in salon chairs for hours at a time to achieve the perfect blonde look. 8 years later here I am, still blonde. Over the years I have learned a thing or two about how to maintain my blonde hair without breaking the bank.
In the Shower
The products you use in the shower are probably to most crucial products to maintaining that beautiful blonde color. Water can heavily affect the color in your hair. Most commonly I deal with hard water. This water can tend to dull, dry out, and even make your hair orange or brassy. To combat these problems I make sure to use these products to keep me hair healthy and as true to color as possible.
Routine :
Wash everyday with Rusk PlatinumX Shampoo
Switch off every other day with Rusk PlatinumX Conditioner and Loma Daily Conditioner
Once a week apply Rusk PlatinumX Repair Treatment for 15 minutes while in the shower
Products:
Shampoo : Rusk PlatinumX Shampoo ($14)
Conditioner : Rusk PlatinumX Conditioner ($14) and Loma Daily Conditioner ($15)
Toner : Rusk PlatinumX Repair Treatment ($14)
After the Shower
Your hair is the most brittle when it is fresh out of the shower. Us "blondes" know a thing or two about split ends and what a pain they are. To avoid damage you want to make sure to care for your hair when it is wet. These are the products I use to reduce damage and add a little volume to my hair after the shower.
Routine :
Throw your hair up in a towel to draw out as much water as possible
After your hair has towel dried, spay TRESemme Heat Tamer throughout your hair and throw it up in a bun
After a few minutes let down your hair down and brush with a wide tooth comb or a wet brush
Let your hair dry for about 10 minutes then apply Organix Renewing Argan Oil to your ends
When your hair is about 75% dry apply TRESemme Volume Boosting Mousse to your roots.
Products :
Heat Tamer : TRESemme Heat Tamer ($5.49)
Argan Oil : Organix Renewing Argan Oil($7.99)
Volume Mousse : TRESemme Volume Boosting Mousse($5.49)
Styling Your Hair
When it comes to bleached hair heat can be your worse enemy so the less heat the better. With naturally straight hair I don't do much when it comes to styling my hair unless it's a special occasion. I will usually let my hair air dry. I make sure to add volumizing mousse to my hair not matter what. This volume moose adds a blowdried look to my hair.
If I'm going out or am in a rush I will blow-dry my hair. To get a blown out look I will flip my hair upside down and blow dry this way. This adds a bunch of volume to your roots and body to your hair. When blowdrying I would recommend using an open barrel brush to minimize your drying time and maximize volume. I use an Ecotools Large Barrel brush when blowdrying my hair.
Products :
Brush : EcoTools Large Expert Thermal Styler ($13.99)
At the end of the day Blondes always have more fun! 😉 I hope these products can help to save your wallet while keeping those beautiful long locks as healthy as possible!
Love Always,
H💕
